By means of occupant behavior dynamics, establishes a new method for describing occupant behavior. Describes the external law of occupant behavior in residential buildings based on the internal decision-making mechanism of behavior. The method identifies occupant behavior as continuous behavior and transient behavior. The continuous behavior includes cyclical behavior and aperiodic behavior. The aperiodic behavior presents power-law distribution, while the cyclical behavior presents periodic distribution. The transient behavior can be described in terms of event correlation type and environment correlation type, respectively. Taking one family as a study case, analyses the rules of the continuous behavior and the transient behavior based on the collected data. The results verify that all the kinds of behavior rules are in line with the internal driving mechanism of the method, which indicates that the method has certain rationality when describing occupant behavior in residential buildings.
